Natural and Herbal Diet Pill Supplements – Things You Need to Know
Thursday, 31. December 2009
Weight loss, for many, is the most fleeting part of our lifestyle. With the number of distractions around us, the last thing that comes to mind is losing weight. But if you feel the need to regain your health and maintain a shapely figure, an herbal or natural diet pill can help you. Be careful, though, because while some can help you whittle some pounds, others can only do more harm than good.
Bitter Orange
Since the death of ephedra, bitter orange swept the market with its ephedra-like effects. This alone should make you opt for a safer diet pill. Although it doesn’t contain similar contents as ephedra, its octopamine and synephrine components have mirror-like effects to the dangerous weight loss supplement. Some of the most common side-effects of bitter orange include heart rhythms and high blood pressure. If you have any heart problems, you should think twice before using this herbal supplement. Nevertheless, it is best to consult a physician before taking this weight loss supplement.
Hoodia Gordonii
Hoodia gordonii is a popular natural that is known for its miraculous appetite-suppressing ability. For many years, it has been used by the San Bushmen of Africa to stave off hunger and thirst during long hunting periods. Although this weight-loss supplement has no known side-effects, using it alongside other medications can probably produce drug interactions. Of course, you don’t have to solely rely on this natural supplement for your weight-loss regimen. Combining its use with regular exercise and healthy eating habit can exponentially make the weight-loss regimen effective.
Chitosan
This weight loss supplement, derived from chitin, is a natural occurring component of crustacean shells, mainly from crabs. When taken, chitosan is known to prevent fat absorption especially on the intestines. The effects, however, are found to be effective only short term. And it can produce frustrating side-effects, mainly affecting the gastrointestinal system, including bloating, constipation and others.
Ephedra
Any weight-loss aficionado knows all about ephedra and its short stint in the weight loss industry. This plant, when formed into a diet pill, is combined with other stimulants, like caffeine, to achieve the desired effect. The main component of the plant that can promote weight loss is ephedrine. But among its weight-loss benefits are some of the most dangerous side-effects that earn it its notoriety. Heart attacks, increased high blood pressure and death are just some of the adverse reactions it was known to produce. While it was certainly taken off the market years ago, it still exists in the ‘underground’ market. Avoid it at all cost.
